“Accounting" is EASY and FUN

Finance & Accounting has always been perceived as a serious and complicated subject to the point of being boring, dry and intimidating even. That was before Malaysian Accountant Peter Ho got his hands on it.

Some twenty years ago, Peter who was then attached to the Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand as treasurer, was entrusted with the task of teaching Public Sector Accounting to Public Officials after office hours. It is bad enough trying to impart knowledge to Public Officials after office hours but the subject of Public Sector Accounting takes the cake. Peter plodded on doing whatever he could drumming in the numbers into willing but physically and mentally drained government servants. The project was destined to be a disaster until Peter came across a learning methodology called Accelerated Learning Techniques (ALT).

With the use of music, games, colors and creating an environment that supports the participants’ natural and preferred learning processes, at the same time incorporating exercises for oxygenating body and mind during the course of the seminar, the participants are able to focus and concentrate. The technique employs the whole brain learning process to better enhance absorption and maximises brainpower by using the left and right hemispheres of the brain. This technique is 600% more effective then conventional methods. It is an interactive, participant-centered learning technique, which enables one to absorb, understand and retain a large amount of ideas and information in the shortest possible time.

Another major innovation was the fact that Peter have been able to take the complicated accounting processes, concepts and theories, simplify and break them down into layman’s terms and transformed them into flip charts with colors. All the major concepts are accompanied by an analogy. Analogies are important tools to help clarify and define the explanation of the accounting process and they help to reinforce the images into the mind resulting in a very high degree of retention.
